Securing Your ISPConfig 3 Installation With A Free Class1 SSL Certificate From StartSSL

This tutorial shows how you can use a free Class1 SSL Certificate from StartSSL
to secure your ISPConfig 3 installation and get rid of self-signed
certificate warnings. The guide covers using the SSL certificate for the
ISPConfig web interface (both Apache2 and nginx), Postfix (for TLS
connections), Courier and Dovecot (for POP3s and IMAPs), and PureFTPd
(for TLS/FTPES connections). If you’ve installed monit and use HTTPS for
its web interface, I will show you how to use the StartSSL certificate
for it as well. This guide assumes you use Debian or Ubuntu; the
principle is the same for other distributions supported by ISPConfig 3,
but paths might differ.

This guide explains how to password-protect web directories (with users from a MySQL database) with mod_auth_mysql
on Apache2 on a Debian Squeeze server. It is an alternative to the
plain-text password files provided by mod_auth and allows you to use
normal SQL syntax to create/modify delete users. You can also configure
mod_auth_mysql to authenticate against an existing MySQL user table.

How To Speed Up Drupal 7.7 With Boost And nginx (Debian Squeeze)

This tutorial shows how you can speed up your Drupal 7.7 installation on a LAMP stack (Debian Squeeze) with the help of Boost and nginx.
Boost provides static page caching for Drupal enabling a very
significant performance and scalability boost for sites that receive
mostly anonymous traffic. Boost makes sure that your logged-in users
always get fresh content by not caching pages for logged-in users. In a
first step I will show how to make your site faster by enabling Boost on
a normal LAMP stack (Apache2, PHP, MySQL), and in a second step I
explain how to make your site even faster by using nginx as a reverse
proxy sitting in front of Apache and delivering the static HTML pages
cached by Boost. nginx delivers static files a lot of faster than Apache
and uses less memory/CPU.

[Harrison Jackson] figured out how to add DVD playback to an iPad. It doesn’t require a jailbreak, or any hardware modifications to your prized tablet. The work is done with some server-side processing and played back through the browser.

The popular open-source multimedia player VLC has the ability to encode from the command line during playback. [Harry's] option flag mastery of the program allows him to convert a DVD to a 320×240 format that is iPad friendly. But this alone doesn’t get the video any closer to being on the iDevice. You’ll need to be running a webserver that can stream video. This example is on OSX, but since he’s using an Apache server it should be simple to reproduce on any Unix variant. Once you’ve enabled m3u8 files in the Apache mime-types, the iPad browser can be pointed to the file address VLC is kicking out and you’ll be watching a movie in no time.

We’ve wondered about replacing our home theater front-end with an ATV 2 running XBMC but the thought of having no optical drive in the living room requires some contemplation. If this becomes a feasible option (that isn’t downscaled from DVD quality) it will be a no-brainer to make that jump.

Don’t miss the demo video after the break. Full instruction are in the comment section of that clip.
